Mortgage rates up at Chase, steady elsewhere: July 30, 2007
30-year, 0-point mortgages are up at Chase today, from 6.875% to 7.00%, making Chase the only major bank we cover who has had its rates go up from one week ago. Other than a small downward bump from TD Banknorth, all the rest of the home loan rates stayed the same through the weekend. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple weeks.

30-year mortgages steady again: July 27, 2007
No major changes in mortgage rates today, other than Northern Trust going back to their rate of 6.875% — the same rate they had two days ago. Also, due to the merging of the two banks, we’ve taken AmSouth Bank off this list and added Regions Bank instead.

30-year rates down at many major banks: July 26, 2007
Bank of America, BB&T, Comerica, Commerce Bank, E*TRADE, HSBC, Huntington National, LaSalle Bank, Northern Trust, and Union Bank all dropped their 30-year, 0-point mortgages at least 1/8% from yesterday. The biggest drops were at BB&T and Northern Trust, which each dropped their home loan rates more than .20%. The banks that didn’t drop yesterday or two days ago may be dropping tomorrow; we’ll wait and see.
The current co-leaders on 30-year, zero point mortgages are E*TRADE and BB&T, both at 6.5%.

Sovereign Bank, M&I Bank lower 30-year mortgage rates: July 25, 2007
A couple changes in 30-year, 0-point rates at our watched banks today, both positive for homebuyers. Sovereign Bank has lowered its 30-year mortgage rate from 6.75% to 6.625%, which makes it (along with E*TRADE) the lowest rate available among the major banks we watch at Mortgage Rates: Current. Also, M&I Bank has dropped its 30-year rates from 6.875% to 6.75%, which makes it more competitive than it was previously.
We’ve also made the decision to sort the banks by rate rather than by bank name, which I hope you will find a useful change.
